Custom Rods by JDC

It's Not a Brand. It's a Custom

You walk into a big store and see the rods there; they pretty much all look alike. The wraps, the grips, and the reel seats are basic and bland. We do it differently. It starts with an email and ends with a rod that won't be duplicated. With all the options for fishing rod blanks, guides, reel seats, and grips, we create a rod just for you for exactly what you want it for. It's what we love to do the most.

Step One: The Stick

The thing is, the rod itself is the canvas, so we have to pick the right material, length, and action/rod weight for the fishing you are doing. It's about your style and your fish.

Step Two: The Asthetics

Depending on the blank and material, there are color choices. The guide wrapping thread, both material and color, can be picked.

Step Three: The Hardware

The guides, rod tip, reel seat, grip, and grip style are next. There are many variables to consider aesthetically and performance-wise. There are hundreds of options and combinations. We'll walk through the ones that make the most sense, and let you guide us with the looks. No one wants a fly rod reel seat for their baitcaster. But both look sick with a woven carbon fiber grip.

Final Step: Personalization

Want a logo? Your name, a custom design? This is where we get into the fun stuff. Maybe you'd like a saltwater rod for Tarpon, wouldn't it be unique to have part of the rod wrapped in sea snake skin? Maybe it's your grandfather's signature, to remember the man who first took you fishing?

It Takes Time

Depending on materials and availability, it can take 4-6 weeks for a fiberglass or graphite rod, 6-8 weeks to complete a bamboo rod, on average.

The Price Tag

The price is dictated by material costs and labor. You don't pay for the waiting time for the glue to dry or the bamboo to cure, but antiqued gold agate stripping guides and custom-designed rod wrappings are more than a ceramic stripping guide with minimalist guide wraps with a little metallic accents.  The prices can range from $200 to (currently) $3,500.  We won't know until we go through the process.

Okay, Why You?

I could wax poetically about performance and aesthetics, or the decades this dream has been wanting to be made a reality. Honestly, Everyone out there says that. It isn't all about the money here. Don't get me wrong, this is a business, but it is also so much fun. Anglers are individuals, and each person is unique. It's a gift to bring that personality, passion, and love of the water into their hand, and know that it's going to be used and create memories like no other memory.

Bamboo Spincaster?Hell yes.

Perfect ultralight rod for trout on small streams or panfish. Le's make yours!
